TRIBUTE TO
John Coltrane
Sept 23, 2023 (12PM-4pm)

We are celebrating John Coltrane’s Birthday on Sept 23, 2023, with Coltrane-ist coming to play John Coltrane’s music transcribed by Andrew White. Andrew White known as ”Keeper of Trane”, saxophonist and musicologist is the world’s leading authority on the music of John Coltrane. I commissioned Andrew White in 2018 to write 5 songs of John Coltrane for 10 saxophones and a drummer. Unfortunately, Andrew White died in 2019 before he could come on the tour to play this music. This will be the “Premiere” of this Music. We have Azar Lawrence, Charles McNeal, Lyle Link, Howard Wiley, Dave Salvator, Jared Cruz, Doug Rowan, Dan Gonda, Randal Fisher, Steven Nelson, Michael Young and Deszon Claiborne on Drums.

Erik Jekabson will lead the Community Play Along and is inviting Music Teachers with Students, Professionals and Music students to learn 4 songs and come and play with for the Community. We have Laura Klein Piano, John Wiitala Bass and Mike Quigg Drum to accompany the Community Play Along.

After Party 4 Tenors Play Coltrane at the Peacock Lounge, 552 Haight St, San Francisco featuring; Azar Lawrence and his music plus music of John Coltrane, Lyle Link who studied with Andrew White in the past will do his presentation to John Coltrane, Howard Wiley who is a Great Performer and will do his presentation to John Coltrane and Bob Kenmotsu will do his presentation to John Coltrane.

My music is the spiritual expression of what I am — my faith, my knowledge, my being… When you begin to see the possibilities of music, you desire to do something really good for people, to help humanity free itself from its hangups… I want to speak to their souls.
